Pre-School
ABOUT US
At North Brookfield Integrated Preschool, we recognize the importance of including both preschool children with identified developmental delays and peer models from the community. In an Integrated setting, children learn and grow together socially, emotionally, and academically. As a peer model, we expect your child to demonstrate the following:
- Age appropriate cognitive, motor, social, and speech/language skills.
- The ability to initiate and maintain positive interactions with children.
- Participate and sustain attention in group activities.
- Follow adult directions.
CURRICULUM
Our preschool curriculum is thoughtfully designed around engaging themes that align with the Massachusetts State Standards and Curriculum Frameworks, ensuring our students build a strong foundation for future learning. Through hands-on activities, play-based learning, and integrated lessons, children explore literacy, math, science, and social skills in meaningful ways. We incorporate evidence-based programs such as Lively Letters and Heggerty to support early phonemic awareness and foundational reading skills. These tools make learning fun and interactive while helping students develop the critical pre-reading skills necessary for kindergarten readiness.
Aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, our curriculum incorporates a range of themed units—such as seasons, family, and animals—to engage children in meaningful learning. Each theme offers hands-on activities designed to support growth in academic readiness, receptive and expressive language, personal and social development, self-help skills, motor skills, and encourages practice at home. In this setting, children learn actively, with adults serving as both guides and instructors.
The Integrated Preschool Program includes a variety of curriculum targeting all academic areas and includes evidenced -based, age appropriate curriculum, such as:
- Lively Letters: A fun, research-based reading program that helps kids learn by turning plain letters and sounds into lively, lovable characters. This curriculum uses songs, poems, coloring sheets, and more to help young students with phonemic awareness, phonics, and speech production.
- Heggerty: A phonemic awareness curriculum that includes 10-minute lessons focused on rhymes, onset fluency, phoneme isolation, blending, segmenting, adding, deleting, and substituting. Additionally, letter names, sound recognition, and language awareness via nursery rhymes are taught.
- Fundations: A systematic, sequential, multisensory method of teaching reading and writing skills. Key components targeted in preschool are phonological awareness, sound mastery, and phonics.
- Everyday Speech: Collaborating with the district’s Speech Language Pathologist, Everyday Speech is used as a whole group method to teach essential skills like perspective-taking, self regulation, emotional recognition, and self-esteem.
- Problem Solvers Curriculum and Song: Using this STEM curriculum as a guide, our lessons include mathematics, science and social studies curriculum designed to spark curiosity and build real-world understanding. In math, children practice patterns, 1:1 correspondence, number ID, opposites, and shapes/colors. In science, children explore topics like weather, plants, animals, and the five senses through hands-on experiments and observation. In social studies, they learn about community helpers, family traditions, and the world around them, helping them build social awareness and a sense of belonging. Through play-based learning and age-appropriate activities, we help children make meaningful connections and develop critical thinking skills—all while having fun!
- Technology: We have Epson Whiteboards and iPads in each classroom. Various websites, programs and applications supplement all areas of development.

Do you have questions or concerns about your child’s development? Preschool screenings could help you find some answers. Talk to your child’s pediatrician, preschool teacher or daycare provider about your concerns. You do not have to wait to see if your child will “outgrow” it.
